[ Shipper Tips ]

Field notes from a practice that only sells forwarding

Short, usable notes for commercial teams — drawn from thousands of conversations with the producers and sales leaders who consistently win.

01

Sell the lane, not the logo

Shippers do not buy a global network. They buy the one trade lane that keeps them awake at night. Lead with the lane you own and the rest of the network becomes proof, not pitch.

02

Price is a story about control

Owned space, owned aircraft, owned consolidations, twenty pricing specialists behind you — that is why your number holds. Explain where the number comes from and the number stops being negotiable.

03

Qualify the decision, not the shipper

Find the person who signs, the quarter they review, and the incumbent's last failure. Everything else is a tour of the warehouse.

04

Your book is an asset — treat it like one

Document lanes, volumes, GP and relationship depth quarterly. Producers who can prove their book are paid for it. Producers who cannot are paid for their resume.

05

The best accounts are already unhappy

Nobody switches forwarders because you called. They switch because something broke and you happened to be the person they trusted when it did. Be in the rotation before the break.

Selling is easier from a better platform.
